How to Switch off the Broadcasting of Every Change to Your LinkedIn Profile
Have you ever found yourself making a small change to your LinkedIn profile and immediately you receive messages from a bunch of your contacts either congratulating you on your "new job" or asking what's going on? This is one of the more frequent gripes I have heard my clients voice when we chat about their social media profile management. Well, fortunately you can stop the broadcasting of these changes with just a few simple steps.
3 Steps to Stop Profile Update Broadcasts:
1. Log into LinkedIn and go to Privacy & Settings.
2. Under Privacy Controls, click on "Turn on/off your activity broadcasts".
3. Uncheck the box "Let people know when you change your profile, make recommendations or follow companies". Save!
Now, LinkedIn are clever and they've thrown 3 types of broadcasts into the same check box, so you do not have the choice to just stop profile changes from being broadcast without also stopping recommendations and company follows. You therefore have to make your own decisions about what your priorities are and how you use LinkedIn. But my experience tells me that limiting the broadcasting on every little profile change is desirable for many. But I also know of others who like to make small changes here and there to keep themselves "in the news". It's up to you!
